USDOT Number Lookup Without Login: Public Paths vs Motus (2026)

Research a USDOT: no Motus login required on official SAFER or on Motus Directory public pages. File, claim, or change your company's identification data: Motus login required for authorized users on motus.dot.gov.

If a site says you must create Login.gov to see a basic Company Snapshot, treat it as suspicious unless you personally navigated to a known FMCSA host and the UI clearly requires authentication for a non-public function.

Verify hostnames. Prefer typing safer.fmcsa.dot.gov and motus.dot.gov and motusdirectory.com directly.

During Motus cutover months, urgency language spikes. Urgency plus credential demand is your cue to stop.

Report suspicious domains internally. Do not test them with real passwords.

If you only have a name, spend extra minutes on disambiguation. Wrong USDOT is worse than a slow lookup.

If you need Mississippi or Delaware lists, use state browse without login, then confirm individuals on SAFER.

If someone insists you must log into Motus to finish a public lookup, they are wrong or malicious — exit.
